FAQ's
What surfaces can I use these on?
Our Surfpaints acrylic paint pens work on virtually all surfaces, making them incredibly versatile for artists, crafters, and decorators:
✓ Paper & Canvas – Sketchbooks, watercolor paper, canvas boards, stretched canvas
✓ Wood – Untreated & painted surfaces, MDF, plywood, driftwood
✓ Glass & Ceramics – Jars, mugs, plates, tiles, windows (weatherproof when sealed)
✓ Plastic – Hard plastics, acrylic sheets, PVC
✓ Metal – Aluminum, steel, copper (best on primed surfaces)
✓ Stone & Concrete – Pavers, decorative rocks, outdoor sculptures
✓ Textiles – Fabric (with fabric medium), leather, cork
Pro Tips:
- Works best on clean, dry surfaces
- For non-porous surfaces (glass, metal, plastic), wipe with rubbing alcohol first for better adhesion
- On fabric, cure in oven or air-dry for 72 hours for permanent wash-fastness (Seal with clear acrylic sealer for maximum durability)
- Multiple light coats deliver better coverage than single heavy coats
Are these paint pens waterproof/weatherproof?
Yes! Surfpaints acrylic paint pens feature a premium weatherproof formula designed for outdoor durability.
Weatherproof Benefits:
- ✓ UV-resistant – Resists fading from sun exposure
- ✓ Water-resistant – Won't smudge or run in rain once dry
- ✓ Long-lasting outdoors – Suitable for outdoor art, garden decoration, signage
- ✓ All-weather formula – Performs in extreme temperatures
Drying & Curing Times:
- Touch dry: 15–30 minutes (varies by surface & humidity)
- Fully cured & weatherproof: 24–48 hours
- On glass/metal: Allow 48 hours before exposure to water/weather for full waterproofing
For Maximum Durability:
- Seal finished outdoor pieces with a clear acrylic sealer (matte or gloss) for extended UV protection
- Allow full cure time before exposing to heavy rain or direct sunlight
- Best results on horizontal surfaces; vertical outdoor surfaces may benefit from sealant
Can I refill these pens or buy replacement nibs separately?
Absolutely! All Surfpaints paint pens use replaceable nibs, so your pens last much longer and cost less over time.
How Replacement Nibs Work:
- Unscrew the nib from the barrel
- Replace with your new Bullet, Chisel, or Fine Tip nib
- Screw it back in—ready to paint!
- No tools needed – Takes 10 seconds
Where to Buy Replacement Nibs:
- Bullet Nibs – Individual or bulk packs (QTY 10+)
- Chisel Nibs – Available separately or in combo sets
- Fine Tip Nibs – 1mm precision tips in convenient packs
- Combo Sets – All three nib types together (best value)
Cost Savings:
- Replacing a nib is significantly cheaper than buying a new full pen
- Ideal for heavy users, artists, educators, and bulk buyers
- Keep a stash of your favorite nibs on hand
Pro Tip: Buy extras of your go-to nib type. Swap them out throughout your creative session - no waiting for pens to refill!
