Fabric/Denim/Leather

Textiles, fabrics, and skins, whether natural or synthetic, have rich cultural significance. They are commonly employed in clothing, soft furnishings, and decor. With SurfPaints acrylic markers, you have the power to easily personalize and enhance these everyday materials. Plus, by following our simple fixing guidelines, you can make your creations lasting.

Preparation
Before you begin, prepare your materials for the best results:

  1. Textiles: If your fabric is new, machine-wash it to remove any industrial coatings. For used fabric, wash to remove dirt.
  2. Skins (Leather): For natural or artificial leather, use a damp sponge to gently wipe the surface. Let it dry.
  3. Skins (Suede): For real or imitation suede, brush softly with a gentle brush.

Painting
Bring your artistic vision to life using SurfPaints on textiles and skins.
Experiment with colors, blends, and layers to create your unique designs.

SurfPaints acrylic markers offer various effects, including color mixing and layering.
Reminder: Natural materials will absorb more paint. Place absorbent material, like paper, underneath to help control absorption.
Drying Time and Coats: Drying times and the number of coats needed for a consistent look will vary. You can judge this visually.

Preserving Your Artwork
After creating your masterpiece, preserve it for the long term:

1. Fixation through Ironing:
Once your creation is dry, gently iron the reverse side without steam. Adjust the iron temperature based on the fabric type.
For extra protection, place greaseproof paper between the iron and the fabric.
2. Alternative Fixation (Hair Dryer):
If ironing isn't suitable for your fabric, use a hair dryer for fixation.
Hold the hair dryer about 30 cm from the surface and move it in small circles.

Washing Guidlines
While SurfPaints are known for their water-resistant and fade-resistant properties on various surfaces, fabric requires special care to maintain the artwork's vibrancy.

  • To prolong the life of your painted fabric, wash it gently by hand or use a delicate cycle on your washing machine.
  • Avoid harsh detergents and high-temperature washes.
  • Instead of using a dryer, air-dry your painted fabric to reduce wear and tear.

The number of washes SurfPaints acrylic paint designs can withstand on fabric and skins without fading will still depend on these factors and may vary from one project to another. Experimentation and testing on a small, inconspicuous area of your fabric or skin are advisable if you have concerns about the long-term durability of your paint on a specific material.

Remember, SurfPaints can transform textiles and skins into personalized works of art. Your creations can become permanent through these easy-to-follow steps.

Enjoy your creative journey!
