Meet Nellie, a passionate artist whose creativity knows no bounds! Art is her therapy, her escape, and her joy. She loves experimenting with different mediums and techniques, always on the lookout for new ways to express herself.
Despite facing adversity, including losing her supplies in a flood and enduring a traumatic accident, Nellie found solace in her art, especially with Surfpaints' quality aiding her journey back to creativity.
1. Can you provide us with a brief background on your journey as an artist and tell us what you're currently working on in the world of art?
My art is my therapy, my happy place, and my way of escaping the world! I have always loved all types of art and enjoy trying different mediums. I have never really considered myself an artist, just someone who loves being creative. My latest passion is revamping old pieces I find, such as an old lamp, an old mirror, and other items I discover in secondhand stores!
2. We'd love to know how you came across SurfPaints. What aspects of SurfPaints do you find most appealing or inspiring for your art?
Surfpaints popped up on my social media, and they looked interesting. After a bit of research, I decided to invest in the metallic and primary color sets. They arrived swiftly, and the quality is outstanding!
3. Every artist faces unique challenges in their projects. Could you share specific challenges you've encountered in your art projects and how SurfPaints have been a helpful resource in overcoming these challenges?
I have faced some major challenges over the past few years. I lost all my art supplies, and many artworks were damaged or destroyed in the Lismore floods of February 2022, when my home went underwater. Later that year, in August, I had a terrible motorbike accident in which I was badly injured and suffered a minor brain injury that affects my concentration and memory. During my road to recovery, my art suffered because I could not concentrate and struggled to complete anything. I love painting in acrylics, and most of my work has fine outlines to highlight it. When I found Surfpaints, I was able to incorporate them by using them to outline and highlight my work.
4. Your painting projects are all unique and have captured our attention. Could you share with us your most favourite project and how you came up with the idea?
Nature is my inspiration! Bugs, bees, butterflies, and dragonflies are so beautiful and so much fun to create. Painting and drawing flowers and insects is very freeing; you can really do anything whimsical or detailed. Since my accident, I have been creating more whimsical pieces, and I love incorporating the fluorescent Surfpaints pens, which were my new purchase!

5. As an experienced artist, do you have any valuable tips or techniques that you could share with others interested in creating painting projects with SurfPaints?
One very valuable tip when using Surfpaints is to make sure you prepare the surface first. This will ensure your artwork adheres properly. Once completed, spray it with a suitable sealant.

As an artist, what message or piece of advice would you like to impart to other artists at all levels, from beginners to seasoned professionals, who are passionate abaout expressing themselves through this medium?
Art is unique to each individual. I've been told that it's an honour for someone to try and replicate your artwork. I often watch artists and try their techniques to see if they're right for me. In the end, I blend these styles into something uniquely mine.
