Priming
Before you begin, prepare your materials for the best results:
Before you begin, prepare your materials for the best results:
- Textiles: If your fabric is new, machine-wash it to remove any industrial coatings. For used fabric, wash to remove dirt.
- Skins (e.g. Leather): For natural or artificial leather, use a damp sponge to gently wipe the surface. Let it dry.
- Skins (e.g. Suede): For real or imitation suede, brush softly with a gentle brush.
Painting
- Please keep in mind that natural materials tend to absorb paint more readily. Consider placing absorbent materials like paper underneath your work surface.
- Utilize fine-tip tools for adding intricate details to your design, whether it involves delicate floral patterns or intricate cosmic creations. SurfPaints' 2-in-1 reversible nibs (4mm & 1mm) offer versatility, allowing you to create both fine lines and broad strokes.
- SurfPaints pens are designed to provide consistent ink flow, facilitating smooth layering. Feel free to experiment with colors and blend them seamlessly to unleash your creativity.
Drying times and the number of coats required for a uniform appearance may vary. You can assess this visually. SurfPaints pride a quick-drying feature, with a mere 2-minute drying time, ensuring that your artistic pursuits are not constrained by time limitations.
Sealing Your Design
1. Once your creation is dry, gently iron the reverse side without steam. Adjust the iron temperature based on the fabric type. For extra protection, place greaseproof paper between the iron and the fabric.
2. If ironing isn't suitable for your fabric, use a hair dryer for fixation.
Hold the hair dryer about 30 cm from the surface and move it in small circles.
Washing Guidelines
While SurfPaints are known for their water-resistant and fade-resistant properties on various surfaces, fabric requires special care to maintain the artwork's vibrancy.

- To prolong the life of your painted fabric, wash it gently by hand or use a delicate cycle on your washing machine.
- Avoid harsh detergents and high-temperature washes.
- Instead of using a dryer, air-dry your painted fabric to reduce wear and tear.
