SurfPaints Interview Series

We hand-select individuals from our community to hear the stories behind their designs.

HI Kate, Welcome to the Surfpaints Interview Series!

1. Can you provide us with a brief background on your journey as an artist and tell us what you're currently working on in the world of art?
I am a primary teacher, always on the lookout for products or resources to incorporate into artwork creation. Currently, I am exploring various mediums such as paint and collage, focusing on the theme of celebrations with my primary class.

2. We'd love to know how you came across Surfpaints. What aspects of Surfpaints do you find most appealing or inspiring for your art?
I came across the Surfpaints ad on Instagram while searching for markers for a Father’s Day activity to decorate cups. The pens were easy for our students to use, and the colours were bright.
3. Every artist faces unique challenges in their projects. Could you share specific challenges you've encountered in your art projects and how SurfPaints have been a helpful resource in overcoming these challenges?
The challenge I've faced with art projects is determining if everything will come together. I've found that experimenting with different techniques or mediums until I achieve a result I like helps. Taking time to stand and reflect on the next step is also beneficial.

4. Your painting projects are all unique and have captured our attention. Could you share with us your most favourite project and how you came up with the idea?
I have been decorating some folders using graffiti-style lettering.
5.  As an experienced artist, do you have any valuable tips or techniques that you could share with others interested in creating painting projects with SurfPaints?
The best tip I've found is to wait until the colours dry before applying a second layer or adding another colour on top.
